CJI Chandrachud emphasised that Justice delivery is an essential service which is provided to the citizen especially the most vulnerable.
Highlighting the changing demography of judiciary, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud on Sunday said that the young are taking over the reins of the justice delivery system.
“…Just day before, we have inaugurated a new creche which enhances our capacity from twenty infants to over a hundred infants. This reflects the changing demographic of our judiciary. The young are progressively taking over the reins,” the CJI said while addressing the Valedictory Function of the National Conference of the District Judiciary.
He further emphasised that Justice delivery is an essential service which is provided to the citizen especially the most vulnerable.
“Efforts in the past decade have modernized our judiciary, aiming for a tech-savvy and accessible infrastructure such as trained personnel, spacious court complexes, facilitation centers, e-seva kendras, medical facilities and creches,” said CJI D Y Chandrachud.
Addressing the issue regarding pendency, the CJI highlighted current national average disposal rate stands at 95%. “Despite progress, tackling pending cases remains a challenge. Increasing our disposal-to-filing ratio hinges on attracting skilled personnel,” he said.
Informing about the discussions regarding the same, the CJI stated that the conference deliberated upon the criteria for selection of judges and standardizing the recruitment calendars for all vacancies.
“The time has come now to think of national integration by recruiting members to the judicial services across the narrow walls of regionalism and state centered selections,” CJI Chandrachud emphasised.
The two day ‘National Conference on the District Judiciary’ included six sessions. More than 800 participants from the district judiciary of all States and Union Territories attended this national level conference.
The session on “Infrastructure and Human Resources” aimed to explore ways to enhance the infrastructure and human capital for the district judiciary.
