Woman Flashed At During Kolkata Protest Against Trainee Doctor’s Rape-Murder

Man flashes woman during Kolkata protest against rape-murder, sparking outrage as police let him go. Protesters demand justice and accountability from authorities

A woman was flashed during a protest in Kolkata on Sunday amid the nationwide outrage over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in West Bengal.

The incident occurred at the Esplanade crossing, where a man reportedly exposed himself to a female protester, according to India Today. Witnesses said that some protesters caught the man in the act and alerted nearby police officers.

Police identified the man as a local resident with mental health issues and allowed him to leave, which angered the crowd. After protesters demanded immediate action against the accused, a case was later registered under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The report said that police have launched a probe and are reviewing video footage to locate the suspect.

The protest was organised in response to the horrific incident at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, where the body of the victim was discovered on August 9. This latest incident of harassment has sparked outrage among protesters, who gathered outside the Deputy Commissioner of Police’s office to demand justice and accountability.

Protesters expressed their concerns about safety during demonstrations, stating that women should not face harassment even in large crowds. They called for swift and effective measures to protect the dignity and safety of all citizens participating in peaceful protests. On Sunday, West Bengal police said it believes in zero tolerance towards offences against women. “Stern legal action will be taken against offenders as also against those spreading misinformation,” the police said in a post on social media platform X.
