Do you know the name of the highest rank officer in Uttar Pradesh? He is IPS officer Prashant Kumar. He belongs from the 1990 batch and is counted among one of the top officers. He has also been appointed as UP’s acting Director General of Police (DGP). Born on May 16, 1965 in Bihar, Kumar completed his MSc in Applied Zoology, MBA in Disaster Management, and also has an MPhil degree in Defence and Strategic Studies. He was selected as an IPS officer in the year 1990. He was first made an IPS of Tamil Nadu Cadre, after which he got himself transferred to UP cadre due to personal reasons and in the year 1994, he became an IPS of UP cadre. Kumar has a lot of experience in curbing crime and criminals. He had received the gallantry award four times so far. He has received the President’s Police Medal four times in a row in the years 2020, 2021,2022, and 2023.
Prashant Kumar also played a very significant role in curbing crime along with the criminal involved in a kidnapping incident that took place in 2017, when he was the ADG of Meerut zone. He had also orchestrated a successful operation to rescue Dr Shrikant Gaur, who was kidnapped. The operation concluded with an encounter; during this encounter, Dr Gaur was safely recovered and the kidnappers were apprehended and arrested.
Prashant Kumar is well-known for his ability of handling such encounters and is often referred to as encounter specialist due to his track record of resolving numerous cases through similar high force operations.
