West Bengal Artist Creates Record-breaking Six-foot Crown For Durga Puja 2024

Reports suggest this artist from Balurghat is making the biggest crown for the Durga idol of Kachikala Club.

Every year, the state of West Bengal lights up during the grand celebration of Durga Puja. Thousands of large, massive pandals are made every year for the four-day celebration of the biggest cultural festival of Bengal. Various artisans from different parts of the country are brought to grade the pandals. But recently, an artist is making headlines for making the biggest crown for the Durga idol.

According to reports, after going abroad for jewellery, artist Devjyoti Mohra made a six-and-a-half-foot-long crown to bring variety to the goddess’s attire for the celebration of Durga Puja 2024 in Dakshin Dinajpur.

Reports suggest this artist from Balurghat is making the biggest ornaments on the Durga idol of Kachikala Club, one of the big budget pujas in South Dinajpur district. The size of the crown is six and a half feet, the garland made for goddess Durga is six feet and the jewellery is made of natural materials. Now to see this jewel, people from different parts, including neighbours, have already started flocking to Devjyoti’s house every day.

One of the attractions of Durga Puja 2024 is not only the construction of idols but also the ornamentation of the goddess. The news of the decoration of Durga idol made by renowned artist Devjyoti Mohra of South Dinajpur district has not only crossed the district or state but also abroad.

This time he made the largest crown of the goddess in the district. For this, the goddess will be transformed from Shola to Zari, Punthi and other natural tools. A variety of ornaments are being made, including a round necklace, a seven-wave necklace, bangles and a head crown.

Balurghat artist Devjyoti is making jewellery with a lot of effort. But he is not alone; inspired by his work, more students of the city have come forward. They are all making goddess Durga’s jewellery together. They are also becoming self-reliant.

Earlier, there were reports that the tallest Durga idol was being crafted in the Kamalpur area of Ranaghat, Nadia district.
