‘Was Bullied At Work’: KFC Worker Speaks After 1 Year In Coma

A KFC worker was found unresponsive at home by her family following an overdose. The Essex native, Emma Price, after being the victim of alleged bullying at work, overdosed herself on painkiller medication. The 32-year-old was fighting for her life in an induced coma due to significant brain damage. Seeing her condition, the family, from Basildon, made the heartbreaking decision to turn off her life support machine if her condition did not improve in a few days.

Defying all odds against her, the Essex KFC worker miraculously woke up from a coma on July 24. Emma’s family have confirmed that she has woken up and has recognised them, as per the Essex Live. They also mentioned that Emma is continuing to make improvements and the medical teams have been giving respite from her ventilator.

Elaborating further, the family said she is communicating via head movements and some limited facial expressions, such as squeezing someone else’s hand and rolling her eyes back.

Emma’s brother Jamie Price said, “She still has infections in her lungs. It will be many, many months or even years until Emma may be able to leave the hospital. I’m pleased to say as a family that we are moving towards recovery and no longer just surviving.”

Emma had been working at KFC for almost eight years. The 32-year-old was subjected to alleged bullying in 2023. Emma informed her family that she was being overworked while other staff members did nothing. The family also said that Emma would regularly come home crying from the stress of being overworked.

After knowing about the incident, the family complained to the managers twice that she was being treated unfairly at the KFC store. To which the firm assured to carry out an internal investigation. The family expressed their anger when the firm did not inquire about Emma’s condition.

Meanwhile, a KFC spokesperson expressed, “Our thoughts are with Emma and her family at this difficult time. Maintaining a working environment that is safe and inclusive for all team members is essential for us as a business. These allegations are being taken extremely seriously and an urgent investigation into the matter is already underway,” the media outlet added.
