Two back-to-back earthquakes, occurring seven minutes apart and measuring 4.9 and 4.8 on the Richter scale, struck Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir early Tuesday morning, causing panic across the Valley.
The tremors were felt throughout the region, prompting many residents to flee their homes. Anxious callers overwhelmed phone lines, seeking updates on the safety of their relatives and friends.
Authorities have reported no loss of life or property damage from anywhere in the Valley so far.

The first quake, with a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter Scale, struck at 6:45 a.m. at a latitude of 34.17 north and a longitude of 74.16 east, at a depth of 5 km, with its epicenter in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, according to the National Center for Seismology.
