Two Army officers and their female friends were attacked by miscreants in Indore, with one woman raped. Police are investigating and searching for the seven suspects involved.
Two Army officers and their two female friends were attacked, while one of the women was gang-raped by miscreants in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore in the wee hours of Wednesday. The police said two people were arrested in the case.
The incident happened while the four were out for a picnic on Tuesday night.
According to reports, the officers were aged 23 and 24 and were pursuing the Young Officers (YO) course at the Infantry School in Mhow cantonment town in the state.
The four were attacked at nearly 2 am on Wednesday, by seven unidentified men who arrived near the picnic spot on Mhow-Mandleshwar road.
They reportedly thrashed one of the officers and the two women, Badgonda police station in-charge, Lokendra Singh Hirore, told PTI.
The miscreants also reportedly demanded Rs 10 lakh from the officers. Meanwhile, the second officer, who was away from the car, informed his seniors about the incident.
Subsequently, the police reached the spot after which the miscreants fled.
The four were medically examined at a hospital at nearly 6.30 am, where the doctors confirmed signs of injuries.
Hirore said the medical examination also confirmed rape on one of the women.
He also said a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was filed, under various sections pertaining to loot, dacoity, rape and the Arms Act, and that the search for the remaining miscreants were on.
Also commenting on the incident, Indore Rural Superintendent of Police (SP), Hitika Vasal said, “The police received information that four people visited the Army firing range late at night. An incident of two people being thrashed occurred there. The two others were told to bring Rs 10 lakh.”
“The complainant said that their female friend was taken to a corner and then he heard her screams. He said he suspects that something untoward must have happened to her. The police team reached the spot immediately but the accused escaped. As many as 10 teams of police carried out investigations and identified six of the accused, two of them have been arrested.”
Reacting to the incident, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi pinned the blame on BJP-ruled state’s law and order.
In a post on X, he said: “The violence against two army soldiers and the rape of their female companion in Madhya Pradesh is enough to shame the entire society. Law and order in BJP ruled states is almost non-existent, and the negative attitude of BJP Government towards the day by day increasing crimes against women is extremely worrying.”

Vasal also said the police were yet to record the woman’s statement, after which further action will be initiated.
