Today’s Weather Updates: Extremely Heavy Rains Likely in Parts of Maharashtra and Coastal Karnataka on August 1; Scattered Rains in Delhi, Himachal This Week

The IMD has issued a red alert (extremely heavy rain) for central Maharashtra from August 1-3; East Madhya Pradesh on August 1 and 2; Konkan and Goa on August 2 and 3 and Gujarat Region on August 3

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in Himachal Pradesh for August 1 and in Uttarakhand from August 1 to 3. Meanwhile, a red alert has been issued over Madhya Maharashtra during August 1 to 3, East Madhya Pradesh on August 2 and 3, Konkan and Goa, West Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat Region on August 3 August with isolated “extremely heavy rains” likely.

The IMD has also predicted isolated extremely heavy rainfall in Coastal Karnataka today.

According to the IMD, East Delhi, Noida and Gurugram recorded over 100 mm rainfall between 8 am on July 30 and 7:15 am on August 1.

Meanwhile, Skymet Weather said the sky conditions will be cloudy to overcast in Saharanpur. “The weather will be warm. The night will be pleasant. Spell of rain and thundershower with gusty winds will occur over Saharanpur and adjoining region during the next 24 hours,” the forecast said.

August-September Forecast

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that rainfall is likely to be ‘normal’ in August as monsoon is approaching the break phase. The IMD forecast said that rainfall is expected to increase significantly in September.

Mumbai Weather Forecast

Mumbai city, suburbs and Thane are also likely to see heavy rain at isolated places (yellow alert) on Thursday (August 1), according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast report. The IMD has issued a red alert (extremely heavy rain) for central Maharashtra from August 1-3; East Madhya Pradesh on August 1 and 2; Konkan and Goa on August 2 and 3 and Gujarat Region on August 3.

While Palghar is likely to see moderate rain, the IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rain in Raigad and Ratnagiri (orange alert) on Thursday. Heavy rain is likely at Sindhudurg, with extremely heavy rain (orange alert) predicted for Pune, Satara and Kolhapur.

A red alert indicates heavy to extremely heavy rain of over 20 cm in 24 hours. An orange alert means very heavy rain of 11 cm to 20 cm, and a yellow alert means heavy rainfall between 6 cm and 11 cm.

Maharashtra Weather Forecast: Moderate-Heavy Rain Likely

The districts of North Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada are likely to experience thundershowers at isolated places, gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) and moderate rain on Thursday. The districts of Vidarbha are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places.

The districts of Konkan are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places. The districts of Madhya Maharashtra are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in Ghat region.

Delhi Weather Forecast: Heavy Rain Expected

According to SkyMet, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in the northern plains, including Punjab, Haryana, UP, and Delhi, over the next 48 hours, improving by August 2.

Meanwhile, the IMD has predicted fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning over Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and scattered to fairly

widespread rainfall over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan during the week.

According to the IMD, light to moderate rainfall is likely in Hyderabad on Thursday.
