Stock Market Updates: The benchmarks Sensex, Nifty saw a negative start on Wednesday with Sensex slipping 89 points or 0.11 per cent to 80,339 levels, while the Nifty50 also fell marginally to 24,438, down 0.17 per cent.
In contrast with the benchmarks, the broader markets also showed optimism, with the MidCap index rising by 0.41 per cent and the SmallCap index surging by 1 per cent.
On BSE Sensex HUL led the losses, followed by Bajaj Finance and Nestle India while ITC, Titan and Tata Motors were among top gainers.
The rupee opened flat at 83.68 per dollar on Wednesday, compared to Tuesday’s close of 83.69.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 3,444.06 crore on Monday, according to exchange data.
Global Cues
In Asian markets, Seoul settled higher while Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong ended lower.
European markets were trading higher.
The US markets ended in the positive territory on Monday.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.25 per cent to USD 82.63 a barrel.
