Shocking: Food Safety Inspection Finds Rat Feces, Expired Ingredients In Hyderabad’s Dining Spots

Food safety has become a growing concern. People have frequently reported falling ill after eating at well-known outlets or restaurants with poor hygiene standards. Amid rising concerns, the Food Safety Task Force in Telangana inspected local restaurants in Hyderabad and uncovered multiple violations. The findings revealed alarming issues, such as rat infestations and the use of expired ingredients.

The Telangana Food Safety Department flagged several restaurants in Hyderabad for violating food safety standards. One of the major outlets under scrutiny is the Yes Bawarchi Multi Cuisine Restaurant in Shamshabad. During a recent inspection, the team discovered rat faeces on racks and the floor, indicating a possible rodent infestation.

Beyond this, the inspection teams uncovered several additional violations by the restaurant. These included the absence of required FSSAI certificates and poor drinking water quality. The team also found synthetic food colours in the storage areas and promptly discarded them. Semi-prepared and raw food items were not properly labelled or covered, and the windows lacked insect-proof screens.

Another restaurant under scrutiny in the city was Hotel Hyderabad Grand. Inspectors collected expired food items from the outlet and other products were found to have labelling issues. Expired items such as red chilli sauce, sweet chilli sauce, coconut milk, rose water, fish masala and thyme were confiscated. The eatery was also fined for labelling violations on dust tea and BBQ sauce. Additionally, several food handlers were found to be missing medical fitness certificates. The inspection also noted that the true copy of the FSSAI license was not displayed prominently in the restaurant.

Social media users were shocked to see the list of violations by these popular restaurants in the city. While many praised the officials for conducting strict scrutiny, others asked for severe punishment.

A user stated, “90% of shamshabad hotels hardly have any hygiene and it can easily be found just by a visit. God knows what’s the state in their kitchens. Glad that Food safety teams have inspected these hotels in shamshabad. But need to mandate fixing of these issues post-inspection,” while another person noted, “Synthetic food colours they’ll buy again because they know there won’t be any raid in a few decades. Doesn’t really help anyone. Give a circular to all the hotels, do raids and then put hefty fines on violators.”

Need to seize the entire restaurant and issue orders for renovation of kitchen with huge amount of penality to owner 🙏— Bharath Reddy (@bharathreddy521) August 3, 2024

An individual suggested, “Need to seize the entire restaurant and issue orders for the renovation of kitchen with a huge amount of penalty to the owner.”
