Not just in the Dibrugarh district, school timings in Assam's Kamrup metropolitan and Cachar districts too have been changed due to the ongoing 'heatwave'

The Office of the District Elementary Education has directed all schools in Assam to modify the timings due to increasing heatwave across the state. Classes across all private, state, and central schools will commence at 8 am till further notice, reported ANI.

“It is for general information to all Principal/Head Master/Head Teacher of Private/State/Central schools of Dibrugarh district affiliated with AHSEC/SEBA/ICSE/CBSE that due to ongoing heatwave in Dibrugarh district, in due consultation with The District Commissioner, Dibrugarh the following guidelines are to be observed by schools to combat the ill-effects of heatwave till further notice,” the notice reads.

Not just in the Dibrugarh district, school timings in Assam’s Kamrup metropolitan and Cachar districts too have been changed due to the ongoing ‘heatwave’. Classes are set to start at 7:30 am and will be over before or at 12.30 pm. This applies to all state government, central government, and private schools, reported PTI. Furthermore, students have been asked not to wear waistcoats or ties.

Heads of institutions have been directed to conduct morning assemblies inside classrooms. They have also been advised to ensure students have access to sufficient drinking water and provide adequate water facilities. The notice also added that classrooms must be well-ventilated, all fans must be functional, and alternate power sources must be available in case of outages, reported PTI.

The Cachar district magistrate Mridul Yadav, in his order, said that “preventive measures have been put in place to ensure the health and well-being of students amidst the current heatwave”.

Meanwhile, the Assam government had introduced the Assam State School Education Board Bill, 2024 in the Assembly to create a new body to control the education system till Class 12 in the state. According to the bill, the Board of Secondary Education, Assam, (SEBA) and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) will be merged to create a new body — Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB).
