Safety Of Indian Missions In Lebanon, Tehran, Tel Aviv Top Priority: Exclusive From Indian Government Sources

“We are already in touch with the host countries for maximum safety and security to missions and officials,” said sources from the Indian government

Amid the Middle East crisis, the safety of Indian missions and embassies abroad is a major concern, according to top Indian government sources.

“We are already in touch with the host countries for maximum safety and security to missions and officials. In Lebanon, our mission is facing problems. It is safe in Tel Aviv despite 200 attacks. The Iran mission is also under threat in case of any retaliation from Israel," said sources.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has already issued an advisory for Indians in Iran. “Indian nationals are advised to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran. Those currently residing in Iran are requested to remain vigilant and stay in contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran," it said.

The advisory came a day after Iran fired around 200 missiles into Israel in response to Israel’s killing of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and other commanders of the militant outfit.

In Israel, an advisory was issued on Tuesday by the local mission in Tel Aviv. “In view of the prevailing situation in the region, all Indian nationals in Israel are advised to stay vigilant and adhere to the safety protocols as advised by the local authorities," it said, adding, “Please exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel within the country and stay close to safety shelters."

“In case of emergency, we have plans in place. In case the air space is closed, we will ask Indians to come to neighbouring countries by road and from there they will be evacuated," said sources.

According to sources, India has 10,000 people in Iran. “In case the air space is closed, these people will be evacuated from Central Asia. Diplomats’ families will be evacuated first, so that fewer people are left in the embassy," they said.

Sources said there will be also be evacuations from Israel if necessary.
