Rs 700 for Just 1.8 km? Delhi Man Questions Uber Pricing on LinkedIn

A man from Delhi took to LinkedIn to criticise Uber’s exorbitant fares, especially during peak hours and bad weather. Surya Pandey shared a picture showing the exorbitant prices of Uber cabs and autos for just 1.8 km. He then suggested people consider asking for lifts to save money.

“If only I had the foresight to invest in Uber’s surge pricing instead of the stock market, I’d be outpacing Harshad Mehta by now!" wrote Pandey on LinkedIn.

He added, “Take Uber, Rapido, Ola etc for instance. They started as the solution to cab accessibility and affordability. Fast forward to today, and after just three raindrops in Gurugram, you’re staring at a screen demanding 300% more for a ride—only to be left stranded for three hours."

“My creative solution? Head to the parking exit and kindly ask anyone leaving for a lift home," he suggested.

The picture shows Uber Go is priced at Rs 700, while UberXL comes in at Rs 588. On the other hand, Uber Auto offers a more affordable option at Rs 146, and Uber Moto is the cheapest at Rs 114.

Take a look at the man’s LinkedIn post here:

Since being shared, the LinkedIn post has accumulated numerous reactions, with one saying, “Grateful for the unexpected cost-saving benefits of the rainy season. The generosity of people offering lifts has truly been heartwarming during this time."

“I travel a lot through the day, but I stopped using Ola or Uber when in cities like Mumbai, Delhi or Kolkata. they are definitely not a reliable source of booking taxis. mostly kali-peelis are better and their charges are also static. You book an Uber and then you have to pray that he will not ditch you after you have wasted your time for him to come, and then you end up getting overcharged for the same distance you could have covered. Especially with Uber, I had to get my billing corrected as they show a different charge at the booking and charge differently when you get down, only cause the driver took you for a ride!" expressed another.

A third commented, “I’d rather walk, build my health. I do that in Bengaluru."

“Sometimes, the fare of an auto even surpasses that of a cab!" pointed out another LinkedIn user.

A fifth shared, “That’s true for real! I remember taking a lift from random bike riders during my internship period in Gurugram in the previous month."
