Born to Naval and Soonoo Tata into the Parsi Zoroastrian family, Ratan and his younger brother Jimmy were brought up by their grandmother, Navajbai R Tata, in a baroque manor called Tata Palace in downtown Mumbai.

Ratan Tata’s younger brother has mostly remained out of the public spotlight, leading a quiet and private life. He holds a significant number of shares in various Tata Group companies including Tata Sons, Tata Steel, Tata Motors and TCS, but resides in a humble 2 BHK apartment in Mumbai.

Back in 2022, industrialist Harsh Goenka, Chairperson of RPG Enterprises, took to social media to highlight the lifestyle of Jimmy Tata. He shared a picture of Ratan Tata’s younger brother and mentioned about his humble living in a small apartment.

“Did you know of Ratan Tata’s younger brother Jimmy Tata who lives a quiet reticent life in a humble 2 bhk flat in Colaba, Mumbai! Never interested in business, he was a very good squash player and would beat me every time,” Goenka wrote in an X post.
