PM Modi To Visit Russia For BRICS Summit Next Week, His 2nd Moscow Trip This Year

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Russia on October 22-23 for the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan. He is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with other BRICS leaders during his visit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Russia from October 22-23 at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin to attend the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday.

This would be the Prime Minister’s second visit to the country this year.

During his visit, the Prime Minister is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from BRICS member countries and invited leaders in Kazan, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.

The theme of this year’s summit is “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security”. It will provide an important platform for leaders to discuss key global issues, it said.

“The summit will offer a valuable opportunity to assess the progress of initiatives launched by BRICS and to identify potential areas for future collaboration,” the ministry said.

PM MODI VISITED RUSSIA IN JULY THIS YEAR

In July this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Russia for a two-day visit, his first since the country’s war with Ukraine.

PM Modi met Putin at his residence outside Moscow, followed by talks at the Kremlin.

The Prime Minister last travelled to Russia in 2019, when he attended a forum in the far eastern port of Vladivostok and met with Putin. The leaders also saw each other in September 2022 in Uzbekistan, at a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization bloc.

Later, in an X post, PM Modi shared a picture of himself with Putin and wrote, “Stronger ties between our nations will greatly benefit our people.”

The two leaders were also pictured in videos shared by the Kremlin at Putin’s residence, Novo-Ogaryovo, near Moscow.
