Seeing the crowds of devotees each day, the authorities decided to open the temple each day.
The state of Telangana celebrates the Peddagattu Jatara, which is considered the second largest Jatara in the state, in February every two years. The Local18 team paid a visit to the main temple of the Jatara, meeting the priests and the devotees coming from across the state to worship the idols.
The festival is held every two years in the state, according to the information given, so when the festival is over, the temple is closed. Now, the temple has been reopened and devotees are visiting the place every day to engage in the worship of Lord Lingamanthulu Swamy and Goddess Choudamma. The priest of the temple, Ayyagaru Munna Krishnayya talked to Local18, stating, “Devotees are also coming here every day and any problem will be solved for those who do not have children, those who do not have a job, and so on.” Mentioning Peddagattu Jatara he stated that it is being celebrated here for years, where several programs are conducted. According to Local18, the temple was opened for the throng of devotees arriving every day for worship.
The Peddagattu Jatara festival is celebrated in February and lasts for five days. It takes place 15 days before the Amavasya. It is held in Durajpalle, located in the district of Suryapet and sees a huge rush of devotees. They offer bonuses and obeisances to the deities, as reported by Local18. As per the beliefs, the deity Lord Lingamanthulu Swamy is an incarnation of Lord Shiva and Goddess Choudamma is his sister. The festival is only second to the Sammakka Saralamma Jatara in the state.
More information states that the festival has been celebrated since the 16th century. The devotees visit the event from the states like Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Police and volunteers assist in the first three days.
