Many candidates don’t let their hopes of studying in reputed institutions dampen by the adverse circumstances. Instead, they leave no stone unturned to battle the adverse circumstances and shape their destiny. One such story is of the 19-year-old Sankarshan Mandal. As per the reports, his parents Manik Mandal and Devaki Mandal are daily wage labourers. Spending his childhood in an impoverished background, he completed his class 12 from the Chakapada Adarsha Vidyalaya. After completing his class 12, he started preparing for the NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test- Under Graduate) exam without taking any coaching. A native of the Tumudibandha village in the Kandhamal district, Sankarshan cleared the examination this year.
Due to his good score in the NEET exam, he got an MBBS seat in Government Medical College and Hospital Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu. Despite securing the seat, Sankarshan is unable to pay the fees due to a lack of funds. The admission fee for this medical college is Rs 93,000, which is beyond the Shankarsan Mandal family’s meagre earnings. Left with no other alternative, Shankarsan’s family members have written a letter to Odisha’s Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi requesting the fees. The Tumudibandha villager’s mother, Devaki Devi, told the Times of India that Shankarsan was selected to pursue MBBS due to his hard work and God’s blessings. His mother added they don’t have the resources to bear the expenses of his education. Shankarsan’s mother added their family has appealed to the Chief Minister for help.
Sankarshan’s father, Manik Mandal, said that it’s the blessing of God his child is good at academics. He expressed hope if the government provides some sort of help through a scheme to them, it will be helpful. Hemanta Mondal, Sankarshan’s neighbour, also discussed this in an interview with the Odishatv .in. According to Hemanta, “We are hoping that either the government or private organisations will step in to support Sankarshan, ensuring that his golden future doesn’t get cut short due to lack of money.” Other well-wishers have also expressed similar hopes of receiving aid from government and non-government organisations.
