New FASTag Rules Implemented from August 1: All You Need To Know

Starting August 1, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced new FASTag rules aimed at streamlining toll collection, reducing congestion, and enhancing the efficiency of the nation’s roadways. These changes also necessitate users to update their accounts to avoid potential inconveniences at toll plazas.

Consequences of Non-Compliance

Adhering to the new rules and regulations is essential for all users. Failure to comply by October 31, 2024, will lead to significant inconveniences at toll plazas.

Key New Regulations

KYC Updates and FASTag Replacement

Users must complete their KYC for all FASTags issued between three to five years ago by October 31, 2024. According to NPCI guidelines, “Starting August 1, the race against time begins for companies offering FASTag services.” Keeping KYC details updated is crucial to prevent service disruptions. Additionally, FASTags older than five years must be replaced.

Linking Vehicle Information

From August 1, all FASTag users must link their vehicle’s registration number, chassis number, and the owner’s mobile number. For those who have recently purchased a vehicle, it is important to update the registration number on the FASTag within 90 days of purchase.

Photo Upload

Users must upload images of their vehicle, including the front, side, and a clear image of the FASTag affixed to it.

Linking Mobile Number

Each FASTag must be linked to the owner’s mobile number to ensure clear and effective communication between FASTag providers and users.

Database Verification

FASTag service providers must conduct a thorough verification of their databases, ensuring that the details linked to each FASTag match the information in the VAHAN database, India’s national vehicle registry. This verification is crucial for maintaining accurate and current data.

By complying with these new regulations, users can help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of toll collection across the country, ensuring a smoother and more convenient travel experience.
