The National Board of Examinations for Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is expected to declare the National Eligibility Entrance Test, Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2024 exam date next week, board president Abhijat Sheth told ANI. The announcement comes after the NBE cancelled the exam 12 hours before it was set to be conducted on June 23 following reports of a NEET UG paper leak case. The president also added that the SOPs and protocols will be reviewed as soon as possible.
The date of this year’s NEET PG test has undergone multiple modifications. The exam was originally slated to take place on March 3, however, it was eventually moved to July 7. But, due to the Rath Yatra event, the National Medical Commission (NMC) rescheduled the exam date to June 23, which too was cancelled.
The 3-hour and 30-minute exam will feature 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) with four possible answers for each question. The exam will be broken up into several time-limited sections following the updated paper structure. “NBEMS has decided to introduce mandatory time-bound sections in all its MCQ-based examinations, such as NEET-PG, NEET-MDS, NEET-SS, FMGE, DNB-PDCET, GPAT, DPEE, FDST, and FET which are conducted on a computer-based platform. This measure has been implemented to enhance the security and sanctity of the exams in light of emerging threats during the examination process,” the board had said earlier.
According to NBEMS there will be several time-bound sections on the examination question paper. If the NEET-PG 2024 question paper has five time-bound portions (A, B, C, D, and E), there will be a total of 40 questions and 42 minutes will be given for each section. Until the candidate finishes the specified time for the previous segment, they will not be allowed to move on to the next part. Once a section has ended and its given time has elapsed, applicants will not be permitted to check the questions or edit them. After the previous segment’s permitted time has passed, the questions for the next section will begin automatically.
It is stated by NBEMS that applicants will have the choice to mark any question for review, whether they attempt it or not. Before the segment’s allotted time runs out, applicants can review the marked questions in that section. The marking scheme will be used to determine how well the questions marked for review are evaluated. Students should be aware that the actual number of time-restricted sections in an exam may differ depending on the overall number of questions in the question paper.
The NBEMS has also mentioned that this method will also be utilised in GPAT 2024, NEET PG 2024 and upcoming computer-based examinations under NBEMS.
