A thunderstorm alert was issued for Thane, Kalyan-Badlapur belt, and Navi Mumbai for the next hour
Heavy rainfall, along with violent thunderstorms and lightning, struck Mumbai on Thursday night, following an alert for thunderstorms issued in several parts of the city.
The sudden downpour took many by surprise, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had only issued a ‘yellow’ alert for light to moderate rainfall in the city.
Many users on X shared visuals and expressed their concerns about the sudden change in weather.
In several visuals shared by users on X, the loud bangs of thunderstorms and flashes of strong lightning can be seen and heard amid the heavy rainfall.

Another user commented that Mumbai was “crying”, linking it to the passing of industrialist Ratan Tata. “Aaj tho Mumbai roh rhe hai,” he wrote in his post.

While, many users on X voiced their concerns about the rainfall in October, with some raising issues related to climate change. One user finely described Mumbai’s “love-hate relationship with the monsoon.”
“Mumbai rains are something else. They can be magical and mesmerizing, turning the city into a lush, vibrant place. However, the heavy downpours can also lead to severe flooding and disrupt daily life. The city’s spirit is indomitable, though, and people find ways to navigate through the chaos. Waterlogging reported in several areas
Waterlogging was also witnessed in several some low-lying areas of Mumbai as heavy rain lashed the city.

The rainfall also hampered the ongoing Navratri festivities and spoiled ‘garba‘ (a ritualistic and devotional dance associated with the nine-day festival) plans of many revellers.
