Meet The Irish Woman Who Left Her High-paying Job To Work On A Grape Vineyard In Australia

Everyone aspires to work in a position where they may live in harmony, make a good living, and spend quality time with their family. A lot of people value life’s experiences and peace more than money. One such person, an Irish woman living in Australia, had an excellent salary, a great house, and a job in a bank; but she left to work on a farm. She left everything behind and travelled overseas, where she took up residence in a hostel and began working as a field labourer. After that, her life took a significant turn, and she is now happy with her family overseas. Colleen Deere, 35, was an Irish resident of Carlow. She had an excellent job and good pay at the bank where she worked. There, she lived with her entire family. She started working in a bank after her graduation. But she made a choice when she was 26 years old. She decided to move to Australia.

Colleen left her family to start a new life, but they believed she was very connected to her house and would return soon. She had about 3.8 lakh rupees when she arrived in Australia. She was in Perth on a holiday working visa when she arrived there in January 2015. She spent a year there before obtaining a second working visa in February 2016 and beginning work as a worker in Perth’s grape vineyards. She used to reside in a hostel in the meantime. In a matter of weeks, she met a man named Tom, whom she met in the same hostel and fell in love.

Tom was an Englishman. They used to share a room in the hostel. Colleen used to make up to 27,000 rupees a week picking grapes on the vine farms, where she was assigned this task. They used to pay her room’s rent together; it was about nine thousand rupees a week. Tom would immediately harvest grapes and head to the hostel because he used to work in those fields. After they finished working on the grapes and accumulated some money, they took a trip to Bali.

They decided to move to Sydney, where there are more career prospects, after returning from Bali. Together, they made it to Sydney, where Tom secured employment in the construction industry and Colleen secured a position as a trainee recruiting assistant. Sydney was their home for eight years. They also had a son there, who is currently a year old. They paid Rs 41,000 a week to rent a two-room bungalow in Sydney. In December 2023, both of them obtained citizenship, and the child was born as an Australian citizen. Colleen travelled to Australia in this manner to familiarise herself with a new culture and way of life, and she is now one of them.

According to reports, they will soon move back to Perth because it is less expensive there and they can afford to buy a four-room house there. Both are now settled with their new lives and have begun to earn more than they did previously. Colleen also advised people to go fearlessly if they have to relocate and start over in a different nation since they will always have the opportunity to return.
