Meet IPS Amitabh Yash, The ADG UP Taking Bold Stand Against Rioters In Bahraich

Amitabh Yash originally belonged to the Bhojpur district of Bihar; the son of IPS Ramyash Singh from the Bihar cadre.

Bahraich, a city in Uttar Pradesh, is currently facing violent unrest, prompting authorities to deploy top officers to restore order. Amidst the tense situation, a video of a fearless police officer, IPS Amitabh Yash, has gained attention on social media. In the video, Amitabh is seen courageously confronting rioters, armed with a pistol. His brave actions have earned him widespread praise.

Amitabh Yash, originally from the Bhojpur district in Bihar, is the son of IPS Ramyash Singh, a retired DIG from the Bihar cadre. Amitabh currently serves as the Additional Director General (ADG) of Law and Order in Uttar Pradesh. Born on April 11, 1971, Amitabh spent much of his childhood around police officers, often studying at the police station. In an earlier interview, he shared that police officers played a significant role in helping him with his studies, sparking his lifelong association with the force.

Interestingly, Amitabh’s father initially wanted to steer him away from a police career. However, after Amitabh qualified for the UPSC examination and became an IPS officer, his father provided invaluable guidance. Amitabh pursued his higher education in Delhi, completing his graduation from St. Stephen’s College at Delhi University. He later earned a master’s degree in Chemistry from IIT Kanpur. In 1996, he cleared the UPSC examination and by 1998, he joined the UP Police cadre.

Amitabh Yash’s first posting as Superintendent of Police was in Sant Kabir Nagar for 11 months. This was followed by transfers to several districts, including Barabanki, Hardoi, Jalaun, Saharanpur, Maharajganj, Sitapur, Bulandshahr, Noida and Kanpur. Throughout his career, Amitabh Yash has earned a reputation for his tough stance on crime. Reports suggest that he has been involved in eliminating around 150 criminals during his service.

His bravery and dedication to maintaining law and order have made him a respected figure in the police force.
