Man Says Getting Fired From Microsoft Was ‘Blessing In Disguise’. His Post Is Trending

Former Microsoft senior program manager Kapil Kulshreshtha recently recounted how losing his job in Hyderabad back in 2005 turned out to be a “blessing in disguise.” In a detailed LinkedIn post, Kulshreshtha revealed that he was fired from Microsoft without any warning or explanation, which left him in anger and confusion. However, within three weeks, he secured a role at Cognizant in Sydney. Today, Kulshreshtha is a lifestyle coach and the founder and CEO of Scintillate Coaching.

“I got fired back on 25th August 2005. At the time, I was a Sr. Program Manager at Microsoft in Hyderabad. No warning, no explanation – just a cheque and shown the door. The mix of emotions I felt: anger, confusion, and that sinking feeling of failure was overwhelming,” Kulshreshtha wrote.

“I called my wife, and she asked me to drive straight home. Instead of lashing out or drowning in self-pity, my wife and I sat down and talked and wrote down our choices. Acceptance didn’t come easy, but it was the first step,” he added.

Kulshreshtha however, was determined to find closure so he decided to reconnect with his former manager who advised him to seek opportunities more in tune with his interests. He then embarked on the “relentless” job hunt. Despite a challenging three weeks of effort, he secured a job at Cognizant in Australia.

In his post, he acknowledged that getting sacked from Microsoft was a “turning point” for him as it forced him to face his fears and reassess his goals.

“By the way – I owe who I am today to Microsoft. What felt like a blow to my career was actually a blessing in disguise.”

Kulshreshtha advised those facing layoffs to see this challenging time as an opportunity to discover their best self.

“Trust the process, because your next chapter could be just around the corner,” he added.

Kulshreshtha’s inspiring post sparked a wave of reactions online, drawing widespread appreciation from social media users in the comments.

One user noted, “Inspired by this write up. Reactions don’t matter but actions do.”

Another added, “This post should reach to everyone who is in this phase right now! Loved reading it, thank you for sharing, Kapil!”

Someone shared, “Your words are motivational and “spirit-filled”. Thanks for sharing.”

“Takes a lot of courage to speak about it, let alone share it on this forum. Thank you,” an individual commented.

Meanwhile, a commenter simply wrote, “Amazing.”
