Maharashtra CM Announces Diwali Bonus For Mumbai Civic Body Staff, Others Ahead of Poll Announcement

The announcement comes minutes ahead of Election Commission of India's (ECI) announcement of schedule of Maharashtra legislative assembly elections.

Minutes before the Election Commission of India announced poll schedule for Maharashtra, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday announced a Diwali Bonus of Rs 28,000 for all the employees of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

CM Shinde said that the bonus would also be given to all the state kindergarden teachers and Asha workers. This would be Rs 3,000 more than that of the last year. Last year on November 8, Shinde announced a Diwali bonus of Rs 26,000 for BMC employees.

Meanwhile, the Civic Body administration has announced a gratuity grant of Rs 29,000 for its employees.

“A demand was made by the Coordinating Committee of various Workers and Employees Associations of the Municipal Corporation regarding Diwali – 2024 Prityertha Sanugrah grant to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Officers/Employees. After the discussion between the Chief Minister and Municipal Corporation Commissioner, for Diwali – 2024, it has been announced to give the following Gratuity Grants to Municipal Corporation Officers/Employees,” a press statement by BMC said.

Municipal Officers / Employees, Subsidised Private Primary School Teachers / Non-Teaching Staff, Teaching staff in municipal primary schools and subsidised private primary schools, Secondary School Teachers / Non-Teaching Staff (Aided/Unaided), Secondary School Teaching Staff (Aided/Unaided), Adhyapak Vidyalaya Adjunct Lecturers / Non-Teaching Staff- (Aided/Unaided), Teacher Vidyalaya Shikshan Sevak (Full Time) (Aided/Unaided) would be given a grant of Rs 29,000.

While Social Health Volunteer would be given a bonus of Rs 12,000 and Kindergarten Teacher / Helper would get a grant of Rs 5,000.

The 288-member Maharashtra assembly would vote in a single phase on November 20, while the counting of votes would be done on November 23. The term of the state assembly ends on November 26, 2024. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into effect in Maharashtra after the EC’s announcement.
