‘There Will Be Impartial Investigation’: Maharashtra BJP Chief Opens Up On Son Sanket’s Car Accident

A luxury car owned by Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule's son Sanket hit several vehicles in the wee hours of Monday in Ramdaspeth area of Nagpur.

Maharashtra BJP Chief Chandrashekhar Bawankul on Tuesday responded to the incident where his son Sanket’s luxury car hit several vehicles in the early hours of Monday in the Ramdaspeth area of Nagpur and assured that there will be an impartial investigation in the case.

Speaking to reporters about the incident, Bawankule admitted the Audi car was registered in the name of his son Sanket. “Police should conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the accident without any bias,” he added.

“Those found guilty should be charged and appropriate action should be taken against them. I have not spoken to any police official. The law must be equal for all,” the senior BJP leader said.

The remarks came after his son’s luxury car rammed into several vehicles, after which the driver was arrested and his medical examination was underway, a police official said.

There were a total of three persons in the car including driver Arjun Hawre, Ronit Chittamwar and Sanket Bawankule at the time of the accident, sources claimed, adding that the driver was arrested and his blood samples were sent for medical examination.

According to the Sitabuldi police station official, the Audi car first collided with complainant Jitendra Sonkamble’s car at 1 am and then with a moped, leaving two youths riding it injured.

“The Audi car struck some more vehicles moving towards the Mankapur area. At T-Point there, the vehicle hit a Polo car. Its occupants chased the Audi and stopped it near the Mankapur bridge,” he said.

A senior officer said a case of rash driving and other offences was registered on the complaint of Sonkamble. “Hawre (the driver) was placed under arrest and his blood samples were sent for testing to check if he was driving under the influence of alcohol,” the official added.

The official said the occupants of the Audi were returning from a beer bar in Dharampeth when the incident occurred, adding the medical examination would include blood tests for alcohol detection.

Sources claimed that both the occupants, Ronit and Sanket had recorded their statements in the police station after being served a notice. Further investigation is underway, said an official.

Thackeray Sena Levels Big Allegation

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut alleged that Sanket was swapped with the driver after the incident to save him from the arrest.

“Those who are the sons of powerful people don’t even have their names in the FIR. After the accident, Sanket was swapped with the driver. Maharashtra BJP chief’s son was drunk and he is being saved. Two people have been injured but Sanket’s name didn’t make it to the FIR.”
