Leopard, Creating Havoc In Karnataka’s Belthangady, Captured After 2 Months

The villagers were afraid to go out at night because of leopards. In the evening, the leopard used to enter the village to feed on the chickens.

A leopard, that was creating havoc for the past two months in the Savanalu village in Belthangady town of Dakshin Kannada district, has finally been rescued. The Forest Department devised the rescue plan with the help of a bone and a chicken cage. The leopard was on the hunt and was feeding on cattle, chicken, and other animals for food. It created a reign of terror among the villagers.

The Forest Department placed a bone in front of the house of Ananda Shetty, a resident of Gurikanda. Locally, leopards were causing havoc by attacking chickens. It is against this background that the forest department placed the bone inside the cage of chickens. The leopard entered the cage in search of food and was trapped by the forest officials.

The pet chickens and dogs were disappearing from the village at an alarming rate. They contacted the Forest Department officials to rescue the leopard. They have been searching for the leopard for the past two months. The villagers feared that their cattle and calves would fall victim to the leopard, disturbing their source of income.

The villagers were afraid to go out at night because of leopards. In the evening, the leopard used to enter the village to feed on the chickens. Dogs were also hunted by leopards. Due to this, people used to come home early in the evening. After careful planning, the officials hatched a plan to keep the bone inside the cage.

A plot was hatched for the leopard by keeping the bone inside the chicken cage. Late at night, the leopard crawled into the cage for the bone. The villagers heaved a sigh of relief after the leopard was captured.

Earlier this year, a shocking incident came to light in which a leopard stayed trapped inside a cattle shed with a herd of buffaloes before it was rescued by the forest department. Interestingly, neither the predator nor the prey got injured or initiated any attack even as they shared a close space. The Times of India report suggested that the incident occurred at a farmer’s cattle shed in Mota Samadhiyala village of Amreli district in Gujarat.
