‘Will Take Swachh Bharat To New Heights’: PM Modi Celebrates 10 Years Of Mission, Undertakes Cleanliness Drive

PM Narendra Modi today participated in a cleanliness drive, as he paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary, observed as 'Gandhi Jayanti'.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday saluted the spirit of the nation for making cleanliness a ‘Jan Andolan’, and said we can make India clean only through continuous efforts. Addressing an event in New Delhi, marking 10 years of the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Prime Minister also said such efforts will take the Mission to new heights.

“In the last 10 years, crores of Indians have made this Mission their personal goal. After this journey of a decade, I appreciate the contribution of all countrymen, the cleanliness workers, religious leaders, our players, celebrities, NGOs, and media persons. You all made the Swachh Bharat Mission a people’s revolution,” the Prime Minister said at the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2024’ programme at Vigyan Bhawan.

“On this significant juncture, cleanliness projects worth Rs 10,000 crores have been inaugurated. As part of Mission Amrut, water and sewage treatment plants will be set up in various cities. Be it work related to Namami Gange or the ‘Govardhan’ plant for the production of biogas from garbage, all this will take the Swacch Bharat Mission to new heights.”

“Swachh Bharat campaign is not just a cleanliness movement, it is now becoming a new path to prosperity. The construction of separate toilets in schools has reduced the dropout rate of girls. Swachh Bharat is the largest and most successful people’s movement with mass participation and public leadership in this century” PM Modi said.

“The President, Vice President, former President and former vice president participated and contributed to ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’. Chief ministers of all states and public representatives also contributed to the cleanliness drive. In the 15 days of ‘seva pakhwada’, more than 27 lakh events were held, in which more than 28 crore people participated,” he added.

“A thousand years from now, when studies will be carried out about India in the 21st century, Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan will be remembered. In this century, Swachh Bharat is the world’s biggest and the most successful people’s resolution led by people and joined in by people,” he said.
