Janmashtami 2024: Sadhguru on Why Lord Krishna is Blue

According to Sadhguru, Krishna might have been dark-skinned, but many described him as blue because of the blueness of his aura. Sadhguru claims that it was Krishna’s blue aura that made him unconventionally attractive to others.

Krishna Janmashtami is one of the most auspicious Hindu festivals celebrated with great fervour across many parts of India, especially in Dwarka, Vrindavan, Mathura and Barsana. The day is observed to commemorate the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

Krishna is portrayed as a deity whose skin is blue. But have you ever wondered the reason behind it? According to Sadhguru, the founder of the Isha Foundation, blue is an all-inclusive hue. When you set your eyes on things that are vast and beyond your perception, you will find that they are generally painted in the blue colour palette, namely the azure sky and the deep oceans. Like Krishna, Shiva and Ram also have blue skin, as per mythology.

Sadhguru reveals that the colour indicates that these deities have a blue aura.

The concept that Krishna is blue does not necessarily mean that his skin tone is of that particular colour. In fact, it is the deity’s aura which has been represented through his skin tint. According to Sadhguru, Krishna might have been dark-skinned, but many described him as blue because of the blueness of his aura.

Sadhguru claims that it was Krishna’s blue aura that made him unconventionally attractive to others. Even those who were enemies surrendered to Krishna unintentionally because of this all-inclusive blueness they saw in him.

As per mythology, Poothana — a demon, who intended to kill infant Krishna found herself drawn towards him, completely mesmerised by the deity’s blue magic.

Sadhguru explains that Lord Krishna was perceived as blue-skinned by those who were spiritually aware, while others saw him with a normal skin tone. He emphasises that devotees should focus on the deeper truth of Krishna’s life, rather than getting caught up in the surrounding details, as it is the truth that can truly impact our lives.
