Entry Points for Sailors in the Coast Guard is done in 3 ways:

The Indian Coast Guard recruits for several positions including Sailor and Assistant Commandant. There are three main entry pathways for sailors: Mechanical, General Duty (GD), and Domestic Branch (DB). Candidates must be aged between 18 to 22 years, with age relaxations for reserved categories.

Sailor Mechanical: Requires a 10th-grade education plus a 3-year diploma in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics & Telecommunication

Sailor DB: Open to those with a 10th-grade education

Sailor GD: Requires a 12th-grade education with physics and mathematics

High-Ranking Positions and Benefits

The highest position within the Indian Coast Guard is the Director General (DG), a prestigious 3-star rank officer role equivalent to a Vice Admiral in the Navy or Lieutenant General in the Army.

The DG earns a basic salary of Rs 2,05,000 per month (Pay Level-16) and benefits from government accommodation, vehicles, security, and medical facilities. The DG oversees all commands from the Coast Guard Headquarters (CGHQ) in Delhi.

They are supported by four deputy directors general and other senior officers at the headquarters. The Director General of the Coast Guard gets many facilities including government accommodation, government vehicles, security, medical facility and an assistant to stay.
