This situation has been exacerbated by relentless and continuous rainfall. Areas such as West Medinipur, including Ghatal, were particularly affected, with reports of extensive flooding disrupting daily life.
Although the disaster has passed, the suffering continues across the vast area of Ghatal. Many villages are still submerged, and water remains stagnant between various wards. The weather has improved for several days now, and it hasn’t rained, but the troubles from the accumulated water persist. Boats are the primary means of transport from one end to the other. Although water has receded in some places, entering homes is becoming difficult. The flood has also led to an increase in snake sightings.
After the water recedes, people are trying to return to their familiar routines. However, there is still a risk of being submerged for several more days. Officials from the administration are examining the situation. In addition to Ghatal in West Medinipur, various places in Debra are still underwater. On Sunday, the Member of Parliament from Ghatal, Bengali star Dev (Deepak Adhikari), visited various areas in the region. Apart from this, the Chief Secretary, along with the district police and administration, conducted an on-the-spot investigation of the flooded areas.
Additionally, Debra MLA Humayun Kabir, Minister Javed Khan, and others inspected the flood-affected areas in Debra. While water levels are gradually receding, the pace is slow, causing concern as the Bengali community eagerly anticipates Durga Puja, one of their most significant festivals. Unfortunately, thoughts of the upcoming celebrations feel distant, as countless individuals continue to endure daily struggles for survival. Relief camps have been opened in various places. The police, administration, and health department are working together for the people.
