In Bengal, Lord Shiva Devotee Carries Water On One Shoulder And Daughter On Another

The man, who was seen carrying the water and his daughter on his shoulders, was going to Baba Taraknath Temple Tarakeswar.

The mythological story of Rishi Shravan is known to many people. In the tale, Rishi Shravan, the son of a blind sage, took his elderly parents on a pilgrimage, carrying them in a basket slung over his shoulders. This story is recalled after seeing a man carrying his young daughter on his shoulder while he travels to the city of Tarakeswar, West Bengal.

The month of Sawan is considered very auspicious for the devotees of Lord Shiva. Thousands of people travel to Taraknath temple (Baba Taraknath Temple Tarakeswar) by foot to pour water on Lord Shiva’s head every year. This is one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in the state of West Bengal. One such man, who was seen carrying the water on his one shoulder and his daughter on his other shoulder, is making the headlines.

The tradition of poring water on Lord Shiva in Tarekeswar during the month of Sawan can be traced from the ancient times. Pilgrims from across the state carry baskets over their shoulders to offer water to Lord Shiva. On Monday, August 12, a pilgrim named Rabin Adhikari was seen fulfilling his vow by carrying his child to the temple. He is reportedly a resident of Chandannagar. He mentioned that he collected water from Sheoraphuli and is set to cover his journey by foot to the temple. He is accompanied by his wife and other family members.

When asked about the reason for such an act Rabin said to Local 18, “I made a vow to god for my child last year which is why I am carrying my daughter to the temple. No matter how difficult the path is for me, I will complete this with my utmost dedication. Bhole Baba will take care of other things.” As per the report, they were set to reach Tarekeswar temple within two days.

One of his family members Rinki Adhikari was also seen carrying her daughter on her lap to the Mahadev temple. When asked about her feelings she said that she is feeling very excited to complete this sacred journey.
