In Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada, Injured Wild Bird Rescued By Local Farmer and Forest Officials

The forest officials from the Kakinada range arrived at the location and took possession of the bird.

In the Prathipadu constituency of Kakinada district (Andhra Pradesh), there is a village called China Shankarlapudi. Approximately five to six kilometres away from the village, there is a dense forest area. A farmer in the village noticed a large bird with minor injuries lying in his field. Although the bird resembled an owl in shape, the farmer recognised it as a wild species and reported it to the forest department officials. The forest officials from the Kakinada range arrived at the location and took possession of the bird. Since it had only minor injuries, they provided medical treatment. Although the exact species of the bird could not be determined, the officials confirmed it was a wild species. After receiving immediate treatment, the bird will be released in a dense forest area near Chinna Shankarlapudi, according to the forest department officials.

Local residents observed that the bird involved in the incident was a wild species known for its predatory behaviour, particularly targeting small animals which it then transports back to the forest for feeding. They noted that the bird had fallen victim to an attack by local monkeys, which likely led to its injuries. Despite these unfortunate events, the situation concluded on a positive note when officials from the forest department successfully intervened and managed to rehabilitate and release the injured bird back into its natural habitat within the dense forest.

The incident is reminiscent of previous occurrences in the region where wild animals have wandered into human-inhabited areas. Such incidents are not uncommon, and local residents have become accustomed to the occasional intrusion of wildlife into their neighbourhoods. The prevailing theory is that this particular bird might have strayed from its usual territory and suffered injuries due to an altercation with the monkeys. The prompt response by a local farmer, who initially discovered the injured bird, and the subsequent efforts by the forest department, were crucial in addressing the situation.
