IIT Indore has emerged as the top gainer among the IITs securing a place in the 501 to 600 rank band.
The Times Higher Education has released the World University Rankings 2025. No Indian higher education institute (HEI) managed to secure a spot in the top 100 rank list. Indian Institute Of Science (IISc) Banglore is the best performing HEI among the Indian institutes, however, it could not make to the top 250 list. IISc Banglore slipped into the 251-300 band rank from the 201-250 band in 2024.
IITs also could not make a mark in the top band of the 2025 World University Rankings and the Indian Institute Of Technology, Indore has emerged as the top gainer among the IITs securing a place in the 501 to 600 rank band after being not able to secure a place in 2024 ranking. However, Anna University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences and Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences left behind the IIT Indore by securing a place in the 401-500 band.
14 Indian HIEs— AMU, Amity University Noida, BHU, BITS Pilani, Chitkara University, IIT-Patna, IIIT-Hyderabad, KIIT University, LPU, Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Panjab University, Symbiosis International University, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, VIT University—have managed to secure rank in the 601-800 band.
Times Higher Education ranked 2095 Universities from 115 countries and territories for the World University Rankings 2025. The University of Oxford secured the top spot for the ninth consecutive year followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in second and Harvard University in third. Stanford slipped to 6th place from 2nd in the 2024 rankings. China nearly missed to enter the top 10 list with Tsinghua University getting the 12th rank.
