The School Education Department has ordered the DEOs and MEOs to declare a holiday for Wednesday due to the heavy rains in the state
Hyderabad has been witnessing heavy rains since Tuesday. As a result, the DEO has declared a holiday for schools on August 20 and 21. The higher authorities of the school education department have issued orders to the DEO and MEO to declare holidays depending on the situation.
While the DEOs of schools and colleges in Ranga Reddy district declared a holiday for schools on Tuesday, the School Education Department has ordered the DEOs and MEOs to declare a holiday for Wednesday as well due to the heavy rains. Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy held a video conference with District Collectors on rain and directed officials to declare a for August 21 as well if the heavy rainfall continues. The Collector has directed the schools to declare a holiday for the students if required.
Major areas in Hyderabad such as Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Khairatabad, Panjagutta, Ameerpet, Somajiguda, Filmnagar, Shakepet, Kukatpally, Musapet, Nampally, Tankbund, Musheerabad, Chikkadapally, Ramnagar, Ashok Nagar, Malakpet, Dilsukhnagar, Kothanyatnagar, Chaitanyapur, Secunderabad, Rasulpura, Boinpally, Medchal, Kuthbullapur, Chintal, Uppal, Habsiguda, Tarnaka, Malkajigiri have been receiving heavy rainfall since Tuesday. Meanwhile, the education department has announced an alert for the greater Telangana state as well.
Due to heavy rains, power supply has been stopped in many areas. Streams and bends are overflowing and motorists are facing severe problems due to water stagnation on the roads. Morning office goers had to wait for hours because of traffic jams.
Meanwhile, the Reservation Bachao Sangharsh Samiti has called for a Bharat Bandh on Wednesday to protest the recent verdict of the Supreme Court on SC and ST reservations. The SC and ST communities in Rajasthan also declared their support for this bandh. The top court has allowed the states to create sub-categories within the SC and ST communities so that those in urgent need can get priority in the reservation quota.
