Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke on the unrest in the neighbouring Bangladesh during his Independence Day speech from the ramparts of Red Fort in New Delhi. PM Modi reiterated that Hindus and minorities in Bangladesh must be safeguarded.
“As a neighbouring country, I can understand the concern regarding whatever has happened in Bangladesh. I hope that the situation there gets normal at the earliest. The concerns of 140 crore countrymen to ensure the safety of Hindus and minorities there – India always wants our neighbouring countries to walk the path of prosperity and peace. We are committed to peace,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi’s statement on Bangladesh came amid reports of attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. The embattled prime minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, continues to remain in India with a new caretaker government led by Prof Muhammad Yunus having taken over.
Hindus have been under attack in Bangladesh after Sheikh Hasina resigned as the prime minister of the neighbouring country on August 5. Hindu Awami League leader Haradhan Roy and his nephew were lynched by a mob in Bangladesh as per reports.
In Noakhali district of Bangladesh, anti-quota protestors were seen attacking Hindus. In exclusive footage accessed by CNN-News18, attackers were seen trying to enter a Hindu home in Noakhali. They tried to break the gate of one Tanusreya Bhatta’s residence.
