Today’s Weather Updates: IMD Issues Red Alert For West Rajasthan, Heavy Rains Likely in Himachal, Uttarakhand on August 6,7

The local meteorological office has issued a yellow alert of heavy showers, thunderstorm and lightning at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh till August 8

Heavy to very heavy rain is possible over North Gujarat and south Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra, North Konkan and Goa, and South Gujarat over the next 24 hours, according to Skymet weather. The Indian Meteorological Department has also issued a red alert in West Rajasthan, forecasting extremely heavy rains on August 5.

Isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely over Gujarat Region, Madhya Maharashtra on August 5, East Rajasthan on August 5, 8 and 9, West Rajasthan on August 6, Himachal Pradesh on August 7 and Uttarakhand on August 6, 7 and 9.

The IMD has warned of low to moderate flash flood risk over few watersheds and neighbourhoods of West Rajasthan, South Gujarat Region and Konkan & Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand Met Sub-divisions on August 5 and 6.

Light to moderate rain with a few heavy spells may also occur over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu Kashmir, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha in the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the weather agency said patchy rainfall is also likely in Delhi-NCR in the second half of the day on August 5.

Heavy Rains in Himachal, Yellow Alert Sounded For 5 Days

A total of 87 roads are closed in Himachal Pradesh due to incidents of cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains in the past five days.

The local meteorological office has issued a yellow alert of heavy showers, thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh till August 8 (Thursday).

Of the roads closed for vehicular traffic, 30 are shut in Kullu, 25 in Mandi, 14 in Lahaul and Spiti, nine in Shimla, seven in Kangra, and two in Kinnaur district, according to the state emergency operation centre.

The death toll due to flash floods triggered by cloudbursts in three districts of Himachal Pradesh has increased to 11 with the recovery of two more bodies from Mandi district.

Over 40 people are still missing after a series of cloudbursts occurred in Kullu’s Nirmand, Sainj and Malana, Mandi’s Padhar and Shimla’s Rampur subdivision on the night of July 31 and wreaked havoc.

Cloudburst In Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar-Leh National Highway Closed

A cloudburst in Jammu and Kashmir led to the closure of the arterial Srinagar-Leh national highway, cutting off the Kashmir Valley from Ladakh and rendering the Baltal base camp for the Amarnath Yatra inaccessible, a PTI report said.

Waterlogging, Flood-like Situation in Gujarat’s Valsad

Waterlogging and flood-like situations currently persist in the Valsad area following heavy rainfall in the region.

Speaking on the situation, Valsad DM Anasuya R Jha said, “Due to heavy rainfall for the past days in Valsad district, Auranga river is in spate…more than 150 people have been shifted…our teams and officers are working… whatever the situation, our team is capable and will work.”

Alert Issued in Jharkhand’s East Singhbhum After Rise in Water Level of Two Rivers

The East Singhbhum district administration in Jharkhand on Sunday issued an alert for people residing in the low-lying areas in view of swelling rivers following heavy rainfall, officials said.

The water level in Kharkhai and Swarnarekha rivers has been rising for the last couple of days due to incessant rain in the state.
