Haryana Assembly Election 2024: EC to Set-up Polling Booths in High-rise Buildings in Gurugram, 2 Other Cities

According to the Election Commission, 20,629 polling stations will be established for the elections – 7,000 in urban areas and approximately 13,000 in rural areas.

Ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections in Haryana, the Election Commission on Friday announced that some multi-storey apartment buildings in Gurugram and other cities of Haryana will have their own polling stations. The EC will establish separate polling booths in the high-rise societies within the cities of Sonipat, Gurugram, and Faridabad.

According to the Election Commission, 20,629 polling stations will be established for the elections – 7,000 in urban areas and approximately 13,000 in rural areas. The gazette notification for the Haryana elections will be issued on September 5. The deadline for filing nominations is September 12, with scrutiny taking place on September 13 and the final date for withdrawing nominations set for September 16.

In a press conference held on Friday, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced the schedule for the Haryana Assembly elections which is set to commence on October 1, 2024. The results will be declared on October 4. The conference was held along with state Election Commissioner SS Sandhu, and Gyanesh Kumar.

The state reportedly has 2.01 crore registered voters, including approximately 1.06 crore males and 95 lakh females. Notably, 4.52 lakh young voters will be casting their votes for the first time. Additionally, there are 2.54 lakh senior citizens aged 85 and above, and 1.5 lakh disabled voters registered in the state. Over 10,381 voters are aged 100 years or older.

This election, which will determine the 15th Haryana Assembly, will cover all 90 assembly seats across the state. Notably, this year’s election holds particular significance for residents in the aforementioned key cities of Haryana.

In a similar setup during the recently held Lok Sabha elections, 52 polling booths were set up in 31 high-rise societies in Gurugram. A total of 35 election booths were established in 22 societies within the Badshahpur Assembly constituency, while 16 booths were set up in 8 societies under the Gurugram Assembly constituency. Additionally, one booth was installed in a society within the Sohna Assembly constituency.
