Good News for Tourists at Taj Mahal, These ‘Monkey Machines’ Will Keep Primates Away

According to ACP Areeb Ahmed the ultrasonic monkey repeller machines will be installed as a pilot project at various identified points at the Taj Mahal. Each of these machines will cover 350 square meters. They will use sound waves to drive monkeys away

The Taj Mahal has been plagued by an increasing number of monkey attacks on tourists in recent times. Monkeys are creating a menace for tourists, often biting them or snatching their belongings, in surrounding areas apart from the Taj Mahal premises. This has raised serious concerns about the safety of tourists.

To prevent such attacks, the Taj Security Police has taken now installed ultrasonic monkey repeller machine at various places at the Taj Mahal premises where the monkey menace is the highest. It is expected that monkeys will be driven away when these machines are turned on.

Speaking to News18 Local, ACP Taj Security Areeb Ahmed said that the Taj Security Police has ordered 15 ultrasonic monkey repeller machines which costs around Rs 5 lakh. The police has identified 15 areas where these machines will be installed. These places are those where the terror of monkeys has been traditionally the highest.

According to ACP Areeb Ahmed, at present the ultrasonic monkey repeller machines will be installed as a pilot project. The range of these machines will be about 350 square meters. The monkeys will driven away owing to the sound waves that will be emitted from these machine. While these sound waves will not be audible to tourists, it will affect the monkeys. Hence they will not be coming in the range of the spots where these machines are installed.

The Municipal Corporation in Agra claims to have caught 450 monkeys from the Taj Mahal vicinity in the last six months. However, the menace of monkeys at the historic monument continues to loom.

Ultrasonic monkey repeller machines were earlier used in 2015 by the Shimla Municipal Corporation.
