Exit polls on Saturday predicted that the Congress is likely to form the next government in Haryana, while its alliance with the National Conference may have its nose in front in Jammu and Kashmir despite a split verdict.
Based on a poll of polls, the Congress may bag 55 of Haryana’s 90 assembly seats, with the majority mark at 45. The Congress-NC combine could get 43 seats in J&K, which also has 90 assembly seats and 45 as the majority mark, with the BJP and independent candidates likely to net impressive numbers.
The results for both Haryana and J&K will be announced on October 8.
Haryana numbers
C-Voter: According to C-Voter, the Congress is projected to win 50-58 seats, while the BJP is expected to win 20-28 seats. The exit poll gives 0-2 seats for JJP+ and none for INLD+ and AAP. It predicts Others will win 10-14 seats.
Peoples Pulse: According to this exit poll survey, the Congress is predicted to win 49 seats, while it gives the BJP 24 seats. It has predicted one seat for JJP+ and none for INLD+ and AAP. The survey expects Others to get 16 seats.
P-Marq: According to P-Marq, the Congress will come to power in Haryana with 56 seats, while the BJP will win 31. It gives zero seats to JJP+, INLD+ and AAP, while giving three seats to Others.
Dainik Bhaskar: The Dainik Bhaskar exit poll has predicted 44-54 seats for the Congress and 19-29 seats for the BJP. The survey expects 0-1 seat for JJP+ and 1-5 seats for INLD+. According to the survey, AAP may win at the most one seat.
DHRUV: As per the exit poll conducted by DHRUV in Haryana, the Congress is expected to win 57 seats in the state, while the BJP is tipped to win 27. It has predicted zero seats for JJP+, INLD+, and AAP. The survey predicts six seats for Others.
Matrize: Matrize predicts 55-62 seats for the Congress and 18-24 seats for the BJP. It has predicted 0-3 seats for JJP+, 3-6 seats for INLD+, and 2-5 for Others. The Matrize survey has predicted zero seats for AAP.
Political reactions
Commenting on the exit poll results, Congress leader and former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the people of the state have decided to bring the grand old party to power.
“People have made up their minds to bring the Congress to power. The BJP has not done anything for Haryana. There was no law and order in Haryana under the BJP. Sometimes, exit polls are right and sometimes they are wrong…Congress is going to form the government,” Hooda told News18.
BJP leader and incumbent chief minister Nayab Singh Saini said his party will return to power irrespective of what the exit polls predict.
“We will win with huge numbers. We have worked for every sector…On October 8, the BJP will win with a huge mandate,” he said.
J&K numbers
Dainik Bhaskar: According to Dainik Bhaskar’s exit poll, the National Conference-Congress alliance could win 35-40 seats.
The BJP may end up with an impressive 20-25 seats. With 12-16 seats, Others (mainly independent candidates) may surpass the PDP, which may get 4-7 seats.
Gulistan: The Gulistan exit poll predicts a much closer contest, with 31-36 seats for the NC-Congress combine and a stunning 28-30 for the BJP.
It also indicates a ‘kingmaker’ role for independent candidates who may end up with 19-23 seats and the PDP left with 5-7.
C-Voter: This survey predicts 30-48 seats for the NC-Congress coalition, with BJP bagging 27-32.
The PDP may end up with 6-12 seats, on par with independents who could get 6-11 seats.
Peoples Pulse: The survey by Peoples Pulse suggests the NC-Congress combine may emerge victorious with 46-50 seats, with the BJP bagging 23-27.
The PDP may get 7-11 seats and independents 6-10.
Political reactions
Former CM Omar Abdullah dismissed the exit polls for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections and said he will wait for October 8, when the results will be revealed. “I’m amazed channels are bothering with exit polls, especially after the fiasco of the recent general elections. I’m ignoring all the noise on channels, social media, WhatsApp Etc because the only numbers that matter will be revealed on the 8th of Oct. The rest is just time pass,” he wrote in a post on social media site X.
J&K Waqf Board chairperson and BJP national executive member Darakhshan Andrabi, however, said that the saffron party will get “full majority”.
“It’s difficult for anyone to form the government in J&K without the BJP,” said Andrabi.
