Eastern Railways will introduce trains from Howrah to Darjeeling on October 9, 16 and 30 (a day before Kali Puja and Dilwai) and on November 6 (a day before Chhath Puja).

Durga Puja celebrations are just around the corner and during this time, the weather is also quite pleasant in the northern parts of West Bengal. Now, with more than a month left, people have already begun making plans to visit the state for the celebrations of Durga Puja. This means, there will be quite a rush during this festive season. Keeping this in mind, Eastern Railways has decided to introduce special trains for those who are looking forward to going to Darjeeling. The special trains will run on those days when the demand will be the highest for travel during the Puja holidays.

This year, Durga Puja celebrations will commence on October 9, marking Shashti. As the festivities are about to begin, people will try to book their train tickets for vacations soon. The rush can lead to unavailability of the tickets and any delay in the booking will lead to waiting lists and uncertainty.¯

Now, Eastern Railways has decided to take special measures. It will introduce trains from Howrah to Darjeeling on October 9, 16 and 30 (a day before Kali Puja and Dilwai) and on November 6 (a day before Chhath Puja).

The train will depart from Howrah at 11:55 pm and will stop at Bandel Junction, Nabadwip Dham, Katwa, Azimganj, Jangipur Road, Malda Town, Barsoi, Kishanganj and Aluabari Road Junction before reaching New Jalpaiguri Station at 1:45 am the next day. The return journey of the train will begin from New Jalpaiguri Station at 12:45 pm and will then stop at Aluabari Road Junction, Kishanganj, Barsoi, Malda Town, Jangipur, Azimganj, Katwa, Nabadwip Dham and Bandel before arriving at Howrah Station at 12:10 am.

The trains will comprise a combined AC First Class and AC 2-Tier coach, one AC 2-Tier Coach, five AC 3-Tier coaches, one AC 3 economy coach, eight sleeper coaches and three general second-class coaches. These special trains will make the availability of tickets comparatively easier and ease the rush.
