Duration To Fees, Differences Between MBA And Mini MBA

There has been a surge in candidates pursuing a Mini MBA, a certificate course, in recent years. This is not a degree course and its duration usually ranges from 6 months to 1 year.

It is considered important for the candidates to pass exams like CAT (Common Admission Test), CMAT (Common Management Admission Test), or GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) to pursue an MBA (Master of Business Administration) from top management colleges in the country.

Admission to prominent institutions like the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) relies only on CAT scores. Traditionally, an MBA is a two-year program, but modern needs have led to various customised options, ie- Full-time MBA, Mini MBA, etc. This space articulates the differences between the jobs and the salaries after completing an MBA and a Mini MBA.

What is an MBA?

MBA is a full-time degree course and its duration is generally 2 years. The syllabus of the MBA is quite comprehensive and detailed as compared to other courses. To pursue an MBA from a top management college, it is necessary to clear the entrance exams (CAT, GMAT, etc.).

The fee for a full-time MBA course is higher than other courses. After finishing this course, it becomes easy to secure a job with a hefty package in a top-tier company. By doing an MBA, you can work in fields like finance, marketing, HR or HRM (Human Resources or Human Resources Management), etc.

What is a Mini MBA?

There has been a surge in candidates pursuing a Mini MBA, a certificate course, in recent years. This is not a degree course and its duration usually ranges from 6 months to 1 year. The syllabus of the Mini MBA is limited and specific. It is not considered necessary to pass the entrance exam to do Mini MBA from any management college.

In most colleges, one can get admission to the Mini MBA course even without passing the entrance exam. Its fees are less as compared to a full-time MBA. However, on the flip side, career prospects and expertise also remain limited in a Mini MBA course.

Other points of differences

1. – Project and Internship: Project and internship are required in an MBA. On the other hand, there is no such requirement in pursuing a Mini MBA.

2. Recognition: The MBA is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), whereas the Mini MBA does not get such recognition.
