A Class 2 student killed in his hostel last week was allegedly ‘sacrificed’ as part of a black magic ritual to bring success and prosperity to the school in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras, the police said on Thursday.
They added that five people, including the owner and director of D L Public School at Rasgawan under Sahpau police station limits, and three teachers, have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident, reported news agency PTI.
Police said the postmortem report revealed that he was strangled. Nipun Agarwal, Hathras Superintendent of Police, confirmed the arrest and said, “The child was strangled with the intent to bring prosperity to the school and secure its future.” The reports claimed that the accused strangled the child to death on September 22.

Who Planned The Ritual?
The initial probe into the case revealed that DL Public School Director Dinesh Baghel’s father Jashodhan Singh believed in black magic, and together with his son, principal Laxman Singh, and two teachers— Ramprakash Solanki and Veerpal Singh— they planned to sacrifice a child to bring them fame.
Reports claimed that the accused planned the black magic ritual initially for September 6, but it failed after the child smelled foul. Despite attempts to strangle the student, he was saved. The medical reports confirmed signs of strangulation.
The accused attempted the ritual on September 22 when they again intended to sacrifice the boy near a tube well of the hostel for the success and prosperity of the school. When the boy became conscious while being taken there, the accused panicked and strangled him to death, the reports claimed.
Body found in director’s car
The boy’s father lodged the First Information Report (FIR) at Sahpau police station on September 23 blaming the school director for the death of his son. He said that Baghel called him in the morning on September 23 saying that his son was ill and was being taken to the local hospital for immediate medical help.
The father further said that when he and his family rushed to the hostel, they didn’t find Baghel and the child. The boy’s family got suspicious and informed the area police. They further traced Baghel and found the boy lying dead in his car.
Police has lodged an FIR against them under the section 103 (1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 against five of them and they have been sent to jail.
School functioning without permission
Hathras District Basic Education Officer (BSA) Swati Bharti further issued an order to register a case and shut the residential school as it was operating illegally. The school from classes 1-8 was being run permission.
The DL Public School hosts around 600 students and the hostel where the boy was killed has students of classes 1 to 5. Reports claimed that the victim was the son of a software engineer in Delhi, Krishna Kushwaha. An investigation into the matter is underway, the police said.
