‘Couldn’t lift My Feet, Felt Like…’: Man Who Was Shot In Leg During Firing At Baba Siddique

The 22-year-old hopped on one leg with his friends looking for help and police took him to the Bhabha Hospital in Bandra

The 22-year-old tailor, who sustained a bullet injury in the leg when Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique was shot dead in Mumbai’s Bandra area, said he was out for pandal hopping with friends and taking part in Dussehra festivities when the incident took place. Raj Kanojia said he heard firecrackers burst near him around 5 pm and suddenly could not move his feet.

Kanojia said, “I drank juice and was returning from the stall when I felt firecrackers bursting on my feet. There was a sudden stampede-like situation and people started yelling. I looked down and saw blood oozing. I hopped on one leg and with the help of my friends, I reached a pandal where people from the administration helped me.”

Police then took Kanojia to the Bhabha Hospital in Bandra, where doctors operated on him. He is still under treatment.

A worried Kanojia said he would be unable to get back in action for at least two months and his sister’s wedding was scheduled for February.

“Ab is halat me mai toh kuch kama nahi paunga. Kuch mahino mei shaadi hai sister ki. Aap kuch help kara do. (I won’t be able to earn anything in this condition. My sister’s wedding is approaching. Please help),” he said.

Siddique (66) was waylaid by three men at Kher Nagar in Mumbai’s Bandra area just outside his MLA son Zeeshan Siddique’s office and shot at on Saturday night. He was taken to the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai where he was declared dead.

The attack carried out during Dussehra festivities, saw six bullets fired at Siddique, four of which struck him fatally.
