Breaking Bad In Delhi? 200 Kg Cocaine Worth Rs 2000 Cr Seized In Latest Raid Days After Rs 5,620 Cr Drug Bust

Earlier on October 3, the police claimed to have seized over 560 kilograms of cocaine and 40 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana estimated to be worth around Rs 5,620 crore from a godown in south Delhi's Mahipalur

Delhi Police on Thursday seized 200 kilogram Cocaine worth Rs 2,000 crore in the second big drug haul in a week, days after Rs 5,620 crore drug bust.

In the latest raid, Delhi Police’s Special Cell recovered drugs from a rented shop in Ramesh Nagar area in west Delhi. The drugs were hidden inside plastic packets of snacks with ‘Tasty Treat’ and ‘Chatpata Mixture’ written on them. About 20-25 such packets kept in cartons were recovered from a small narrow shop in west Delhi’s Ramesh Nagar area, the official said.

The seizure is linked to an earlier recovery of 562 kg of drugs worth over Rs 5,000 crore from southwest Delhi’s Mahipalpur, he said.

He further said the recovered seizure weighs around 208 kg, which is worth Rs 2,080 crore in international market.

Official sources said the consignment was kept there by an Indian origin UK citizen who is now on the run. “We got a tip off during investigations of our previous seizure and arrest. On Thursday evening, a team of the Special Cell was sent to the shop and recovered the consignment,” a police officer said.

The UK citizen, who is identified by the police, managed to escape before the arrival of the team. He had taken the shop on rent a few days ago, the officer said, adding two people including the owner of the shop have been detained and questioned.

The owner told the police that the shop was taken on rent for business related to garments, the officer said. It is suspected that the UK citizen wanted to transport the drug consignment to other parts of the country but he fled after the police’s previous seizure, he said.

Earlier on October 3, the police, in one of Delhi’s biggest drug busts, claimed to have seized over 560 kilograms of cocaine and 40 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana estimated to be worth around Rs 5,620 crore from a godown in Mahipalur.

The special cell had arrested four people — Tushar Goyal (40), Himanshu Kumar (27) and Aurangzeb Siddiqui (23) of Delhi and Bharat Kumar Jain (48) of Mumbai — and confiscated the consignment weighing over 602 kilograms which were kept in sacks in the godown.

A senior officer said Goyal is the mastermind of syndicate operating in India, adding it emerged during interrogation that all the four accused were planning to sell a large quantity of drugs in concerts, rave parties and upscale localities in Delhi and other metropolitan cities.

BJP Vs Congress Over Delhi Drug Bust

The BJP had earlier claimed that the arrested ‘kingpin’ in one of the largest drug busts in the national capital is linked to the Congress party. They alleged that the arrested suspect is the chairman of Delhi Youth Congress’ RTI cell. In response, the youth wing of Indian National Congress (INC) strongly denied these allegations, saying that the BJP is misleading the public with “lies and deception.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had earlier attacked the Congress over the Delhi drug seizure, and accused it of turning entire north India into a hotspot of illegal drug trade when it was in power before 2014.

Shah said the arrested accused, Tushar Goel, is the chairman of the Delhi Youth Congress’ RTI cell. Giving data about the seizures made during the last 10 years, Shah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Drugs Free India’ campaign soon after assuming office in 2014.

Before Modi became the prime minister, Congress had made entire north India, be it Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana or Delhi, a hotspot of drug trade, Shah said, adding that the Modi government took decisive steps against this trade. In Gujarat also, our BJP government seized drugs of Rs 8,500 crore in just three years.
