Kerala Biotechnology Commission has established the Institute of Advanced Virology here, a Rs 500 crore project.
Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram has many cultural centres here. One of them is Bio 360, a Biotechnology and Life Sciences Park in the city that has been gaining massive attention. It was first established in 2013 by the Kerala Government and phase 1 of the park Bio Park is spread over 70 acres of land.
Bio 360 Life Sciences Park focuses on incubation, research and development and manufacturing in departments of life sciences, biotechnology, nanotechnology, bioinformatics, biomedical devices and pharmaceuticals. The BioSciences Research and Training Centre (BRTC) of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) is also a part of the 360 Life Sciences Park. BRTC is known to research various disease resistance and immunity in animals.

It aims to offer academic discipline which includes a PG Diploma and PhD in Virology. The institute has high-end research facilities to study viruses and related infections. It will soon have the facility to develop anti-viral drugs, vaccines and other diagnostic tools. It would also house a Global Virus Network.
Bio360 of Kerala is believed to lead science to another level. The Life Sciences Park is an initiative of the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) is a huge leap in the science sector of the state. It will be a cluster of research institutions, science-tech academies and companies operating in the biotech sector. The science park has an industrial-level infrastructure, incubation centre and technology and development centre that will attract domestic and foreign investors and shareholders in areas related to nanotechnology and life sciences. The park houses state-of-the-art facilities and will quickly make Thiruvananthapuram a hub for the science industry and Research and Development in life sciences.
Bio 360 is located on National Highway 66 at Thonnakkal and is 22 kilometres from Trivandrum International Airport. It is 10 kilometres away from Technopark and Technocity is just three kilometres. Further, it is 30 kilometres away from Vizhinjam International Seaport Thiruvananthapuram.
