‘Bihar’s Welfare Critical to Entire Country’: PM Modi to Newly Elected JD(U) MPs During Ally Meeting

PM Narendra Modi shared pictures of the meeting and said the BJP and JD(U) have a long history of working together in their "fight against poor governance, corruption and criminalisation in Bihar"

A day after he held a meeting with MPs from NDA ally Telugu Desam Party, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met members of the other major alliance partner, JD(U), and said Bihar’s welfare is critical for a better India.

The prime minister shared pictures of the meeting and said the BJP and JD(U) have a long history of working together in their “fight against poor governance, corruption and criminalisation in Bihar”.

“Had a great meeting with @Jduonline MPs. Our Parties have a long history of working together and fighting poor governance, corruption and criminalisation in Bihar. The leadership of Shri @NitishKumar Ji has taken Bihar on the path of development. We will keep working together for good governance,” Modi said on X.

Union minister Lalan Singh was also present during the meeting. The JD(U) MPs later spoke about the warmth with which Modi spoke about his association with Bihar, their party and leader Nitish Kumar.

“The prime minister told us that we all must work towards the cause of the people and their welfare. He said the welfare of Bihar is critical for the welfare of the entire country,” a JD(U) MP told News18.

Bihar has seen a lot of political turbulence in the last five years. Chief minister Nitish Kumar, who got elected in 2020 in alliance with the BJP, jumped ship to join rival RJD. Then, his return to the NDA fold in January resulted in the change of government in the state.

“He also asked us to go and interact with people and understand their problems, and if there are issues to go to him with them. He said he will be more than happy to provide a solution,” said another JD(U) MP about Modi’s assurance to them.

The MP said the prime minister also reiterated that the NDA was a natural alliance and had a long history of staying united, especially in its fight against corruption and bringing good governance to the people.

Since Nitish Kumar’s to-and-fro, the situation has mostly been one of water under the bridge. In fact, the NDA along with Chirag Paswan’s LJP (Ram Vilas) and HAM leader Jitan Ram Majhi, was able to secure 30 out of 40 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. Both got ministerial berths in the Union Cabinet. The ruling alliance is now focusing on keeping the momentum going for the assembly polls at the end of 2025.
