Bhagwant Mann Govt’s Sadak Surakhya Force Has Saved More Than 1,000 Lives in Past Few Months

Apart from this, the security of more than 5,500 km of national highways, state highways and major district roads has been strengthened and around 150 state-of-the-art vehicles have been deployed to prevent vehicular traffic violations, officials told News18

The Sadak Surakhya Force created by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to save lives in road accidents is showing excellent results, with more than 1,000 lives saved in the last few months. The force has also delivered more than Rs 60 lakh to the homes of people injured in accidents.

Apart from this, the security of more than 5,500 km of national highways, state highways and major district roads has been strengthened and around 150 state-of-the-art vehicles have been deployed to prevent vehicular traffic violations, officials told News18.

The Sadak Surakhya Force, which wears a uniform different from the Punjab Police, was created by the Punjab government to minimize the loss of life and property in road accidents. The initiative will also help save Rs 18,000 crore annually by reducing accidents by 25%.

Based on the 2004 Census, the number of traffic police in Punjab is 2,048, which the current government is increasing through new recruitments. After deployment of the force, 59% road accidents on highways passing through rural areas of Punjab and 4% road accidents in urban areas have been prevented.

The newly inducted vehicles under the Sadak Surakhya Force are equipped with a high-end mobile network, video recording system (MNVRS), four cameras and a vehicle location. These are also equipped with tracking system (VLTS).

The advanced mobile surveillance system installed in these vehicles is robust as per industrial-grade standards.

The deployment of police personnel on the roads has increased after the formation of the Sadak Surakhya Force (SSF). One vehicle will be parked every 30 km. Three police personnel will be posted in the vehicle. If there is a road accident, they will help the injured person and immediately move the damaged vehicle.

Punjab has become the first state in the country to constitute a Sadak Surakhya Force. Now, if there is any accident on the road within a radius of 30 km, information about it can be relayed to the helpline no 112. As soon as the information reaches the personnel in the control room, they will dispatch a hi-tech vehicle to assist the affected people.
