With heavy rains lashing Bengaluru, the city has been placed under an orange alert by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
Heavy rain in India’s Tech Capital Bengaluru on Tuesday triggered traffic snarls and waterlogging across the city, disrupting the normal life of the residents. Several videos are going viral among the netizens showing the flooded situation of the city.
One of the videos showed a motorcyclist losing control and falling over in a flooded underpass. The video shared by a user on X showed the motorcyclist attempting to navigate through the submerged Panathur railway underpass, only for the floodwaters to surge around him with startling force. The biker, caught off guard by the sudden rise in water levels, lost balance and was thrown off his bike as the water rapidly rushed through the passage.

Another video going viral on social media showed Manyata Tech Park, one of India’s biggest office spaces, flooded with rainwater. An X handle shared the video from inside Manyata Tech Park and wrote, “The roads in Manyata Tech Park on the ORR, Bengaluru, are under water. With rains continuing non-stop since 3 AM, expect more flooding in and around this area.”

With heavy rains lashing Bengaluru, the city has been placed under an orange alert by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). In wake of this, the Karnataka government has declared a holiday for schools on Wednesday. The tech companies have also been advised to allow their employees to work from home.
Motorists faced difficulties navigating through the city traffic due to the downpour as several roads in Varthur, Hebbal, Kadubeesanahalli, and surrounding areas were water-logged.
According to Traffic Police, gridlocks were reported on major roads including ORR, Tumakuru Road and Airport Road. Heavy waterlogging was also reported on Bellary Road at Hunsamaranahalli.

Bengaluru has been receiving incessant rainfall since early Tuesday morning, causing waterlogging and traffic jams at multiple locations in the city. IMD has issued a yellow alert — indicating worsening weather conditions that could disrupt daily life — for the districts of Tumakuru, Mysuru, Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kolar, Shivamogga and Chikkaballapura in addition to coastal Karnataka. The weather agency has predicted gloomy skies and showers for the metropolis from October 14 to 17.
The city’s Marathalli Weather Union gauge has recorded 42.6mm since midnight. Bengaluru has already recorded 72mm of rainfall in October.
