Bengaluru-based Entrepreneur Backs Cognizant’s Rs 2.5 LPA Offer, Says Quality of Freshers ‘So Bad’

American information technology company Cognizant is under fire for offering a relatively low annual package of Rs 2.52 lakh to freshers. The job posting for mass hiring was for the 2024 graduating batch off-campus. While many slammed the IT giant for its low package, tech entrepreneur Vatsal Sanghvi defended it. Sanghvi argued that the quality of fresh graduates is “bad” and paying even Rs 20,000 a month to them is “overspending”.

He even listed a few reasons to back his claim. Sanghvi said that most freshers “don’t know how to communicate and behave professionally” and “cannot code properly”.

Sanghvi then said that the package offered by the company is a “training stipend” and suggested that those dissatisfied with the pay should look elsewhere.

The Bengaluru-based entrepreneur further said that if one works on their skills, then there are “plenty of opportunities to grow”.

“But you know what – we as a country want free money and the ones sitting in plush offices have an opinion on everything without having an iota of an idea about the ground reality,” he concluded.

Sanghvi’s post on X (formerly Twitter) didn’t go down well with Internet users, with one saying, “It’s a training stipend. It’s clearly mentioned as CTC. And they don’t train you in your forte but randomly assign people to technologies based on their project requirements. All that matters is profit.”

“Instead of complaining about the quality of freshers, why don’t the companies plan on training them in college itself? Some weekend refresher courses. Have an exclusive tie-up with a few colleges and run your plan there free of cost. It will be a win-win for everyone,” expressed a third.

A fourth shared, “You are talking as if they are distributing free jobs..there will be interviews and they only recruit candidates who clear them The issue is with the salary offered. This package was the same when I joined as a fresher way back in 2006. Everyone is pointing out correction w.r.t. Inflation.”

“I challenge you to live with 20k in Bengaluru for 3 months and then talk, there is something called dignity of labour, minimum wages. Nothing is applicable seems!” expressed a fifth.
