A special pooja was performed for Mariamman Swami and the ceremony was held at Sri Arulmeku Muthumariyamman Temple.
Sri Arulmeku Muthumariyamman Temple in Puducherry is celebrating the annual Brahmostsava festival. It began on August 7. During this, Abhishekams and special poojas were performed to please Mariamman, the goddess of rain and fertility. The Goddess Rath Yatra was also seen during this festival which witnessed the crowd of devotees. In this, the goddess appeared in various vehicles and blessed the devotees.
The annual Brahmostsava festival also witnessed a ceremony involving offering beer, rum, whiskey, wine, egg, egg fry, roti, bread, rice, puddings, biscuits, mutton, chicken, fish fry and other kinds of soft drinks were offered to Goddess Mariamman.
Followed by Pongal Vaithal- where the paddy rice obtained from that harvest is boiled in a new pot with rice, milk and ghee and served to Goddess Mariamma, the Kumbham ceremony was held. In this, mutton and chicken were offered to god which piled up like a mountain. It also included fish curry rice and other types of alcoholic beverages. A special pooja was also performed for Swami and the ceremony was held in Kumbham. All those who participated in the puja were offered prasad made by Kumbha.
This was followed by the Maha Deeparathan ceremony. A large number of devotees participated in this and worshipped Swami. The arrangements for this were made by the administrators of the temple trust committee, the temple priests and the people of the village.
